Mericien is a California native who first fell in love with research while an undergrad at UCLA. She is currently pursuing a MD/PhD degree at NYU School of Medicine. In the Cadwell Lab, her thesis project is examining the interrelationships between the gut microbiome, host immune system, and intestinal parasites to help identify novel targets for treatment. In addition, she founded NYUSoM’s ‘Women of MSTP’ which helps foster community, mentorship, and allyship in a male-dominated field. Her career aspirations include running her own translational research lab and specializing in neonatology. She prioritizes practicing wellness regularly through hip hop yoga and trying to find NYC’s best pizza slice.

Mericien loves how JRNLclub allows her to stay up to date with both basic science and clinical medicine through their quick 10 minute talks. As a young trainee, she is looking forward to using it to help build her scientific network through discussions on Twitter and the JRNLclub website.
